Name

History Uncorked: The Infamous Coffin Handbill

Description

Andrew Jackson’s military prowess didn’t always serve him well. As the 1828 presidential election promised a rematch between Jackson and incumbent John Quincy Adams, the methods used by both candidate’s election teams reached for newer, stronger and more powerful symbols of successes and failures. Join us as we examine the infamous Coffin Handbill of 1828 in which Jackson’s legacy—not as an inspiring general but a callous destroyer of his own forces—was recast for the voting public.

Erin Adams, director of education at Andrew Jackson’s Hermitage, will serve as the speaker for this event.

A portion of all sales will support the Andrew Jackson Foundation’s mission to preserve the home place of Andrew Jackson, create learning opportunities and inspire informed citizenship.
